Lincolnshire potato producer Branston has stepped in to provide potatoes to a food bank in the county that had run short.

Branston was approached by Steve Eason-Harris from Lincolnshire County Council’s Emergency Planning team. The council had received a plea for help from the Wragby Chef (Children Eat Free) charity which also runs run the town’s food bank.

The Wragby Chef had run out of potatoes and needed support in order to continue to provide free meals to children and to supply meals to vulnerable people at their local food bank.

“We were happy to help out with an initial donation of 50kg – enough for around 400 meals –which should keep them going for the next couple of weeks,” said a spokesperson for Branston. “We’ll provide more when they are needed.”

Branston supports a number of local charities with potatoes on a regular basis and the requests have increased since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis.
