TESCO LOW CARBON CONCEPT FARM IN LINCOLNSHIRE
In July 2025 Tesco held an open day in Lincolnshire to showcase the work they are doing with farmers and food processors in their supply base to deliver profitable food supplies at the same time as delivering the transition to low carbon production. Look out for our campaign coming soon!
To accompany the open day Tesco produced an online video, introduced by Tesco CEO Ashwin Prasad, who stressed the vital role that their suppliers, such as those in Lincolnshire, play in their supply chain. The video is available to view here.
In January, the Greenprint for UK Farming report set out how the industry needs to work with government and innovators to deliver low carbon food chains whist still being productive and economic. The Lincolnshire Low Carbon Concept Farm is working with four of Tesco’s key suppliers including Branston Potatoes, Greenyard, TH Clements, and Heygates to trial new technology for cereals, potatoes, broccoli, peas and beans.
The video features a range of Lincolnshire businesses and innovators who are working together to help deliver on farm innovations in the Tesco supply chain, including:
- Mark Willcox of Branston demonstrating how they are innovating in the production of wheat and potatoes, using sensors, soil analysis and nitrogen efficiency technologies to deliver better crops more efficiently
- David Summerland and Adrian Drury of TH Clements explaining how they are improving broccoli production with cover crops, peat free plant production and growing system changes
These farms are using technology developed in Lincolnshire by the use of technology developed by; Lincoln by BHive Innovations, including technologies to detect crop diseases and to assess crop growth and maturity with ground penetrating radar; Dr Iain Gould of the Lincoln Institute of AgriFood Technology who is using soil DNA analysis to help improve soil function; and R-leaf technology to optimise fertiliser efficiency which was developed by Riseholme Campus based Crop Intellect run by Dr Apostolos Papadopoulos.
The film illustrates how industry and the technology base are working together in Lincolnshire to produce crops efficiently and sustainably, to help them supply directly into the Tesco supply chain.
