New relief road reducing town centre congestion, enabling local housing and employment and creating a new A1 junction.

“The major investment that has been secured for Grantham by local partners working together will really help us to deliver our ambitions to grow the economy in Greater Lincolnshire and attract new business and employment opportunities to our main towns.  The new road will open up new housing and employment land, and also support new investment opportunities in the town centre, which will become a safer and more attractive place to spend time visiting."

Ursula Lidbetter, Former Chair of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP

This large-scale infrastructure scheme has delivered a new 3km distribution road linking a new junction to the A1 with the A52 at Somerby Hill, bridging the Witham Valley and alleviating congestion issues in the town centre. The investment unlocks housing within the Southern Quadrant Sustainable Urban Extension known as Spitalgate Heath, and provides up to 120,000m2 of employment floor space adjacent to the A1.

The relief road is a crucial component for growth of the town of Grantham, and Spitalgate Heath, and delivers the greatest proportion of Grantham’s population, housing and employment growth through 3,500 new homes, new schools, medical facilities, a community centre and other public amenities.

The completed route also provides direct access to the new King 31 employment site on the A1, which is forecast to generate/safeguard over 370 jobs in the area. Opening up additional employment land along the new route will further increase the ability of the area to attract new business investment, offering employment sites with good transport links and a growing population that can provide a pool of locally available labour for new and growing companies.
