Sir Edward Leigh officially opened phase two of the Showground Campus on Friday 18th November.

The opening of the second phase of Riseholme College’s £24.5m Showground Campus was celebrated at an official ceremony on Friday 18th November.

Gainsborough MP Sir Edward Leigh officially opened the £11.5m second phase  at the Lincolnshire Showground, which includes the Agri-Tech Health and Nutrition Centre, incorporating specialist laboratories and food science facilities, and the Sports and Health Science Centre, which includes a fitness suite with state-of-the-art gym equipment, Olympic-standard mixed use sports hall and flood-lit, all-weather pitch.

Phase two was supported by £7.5m of Government funding secured from the Growth deal by the Greater Lincolnshire LEP.

Jeanette Dawson OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Riseholme College, part of Bishop Burton College, said: “One year ago we were celebrating the opening of the first phase of the Riseholme Showground Campus. That was a wonderful occasion and one that highlighted the college’s steadfast commitment to delivering land-based further education in Lincolnshire.

“Twelve months on, we are here to officially open phase two of the campus – which, again, has been delivered on time and to budget.

"We couldn't have done this without the help of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP. Colleges have lost the ability to bid for capital grants and have had to rely on LEPs, and Greater Lincolnshire has been one of the first to throw their hat into the ring."

Sir Edward Leigh added: "Phase two of this campus was made possible after £7.5m was secured from the Single Local growth Fund by the LEP so we're very grateful to everyone who was involved."

Phase one of the campus opened last year and includes an industry-leading animal management unit, engineering workshops and a modern learning resource centre.

Around 400 further education students and 80 degree students currently study at the college. Further education students study at both the Showground Campus and Riseholme Park Campus, with degree students exclusively studying at the Showground Campus.
