Apprentice Macaulay Revell is taking part in the WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi.

Young people from across the world are currently competing in the world championship of skills, and Greater Lincolnshire is proud to support Grimsby apprentice Macaulay Revell who qualified to attend by achieving a gold medal at the UK Skills Show last year.

Around 1,300 competitors from 60 countries and regions are participating in the 44th edition of the WorldSkills Competition, which is currently taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (15th to 18th October).

Macaulay, a sheet metal apprentice at Allied Protek Enginering Solutions in Grimsby who attends Grimsby Institute, underwent an intense two-year process, winning regional heats, a national final, European finals and most recently a team selection showdown.

He is part of the 32-strong team taking part in an intense week of competition, testing skills from aircraft maintenance and mechanical engineering to restaurant service and cyber security.

Bigger than ever, the WorldSkills competition is raising the recognition of skilled professionals worldwide. Everything from the houses we live in to the societies we create is the result of skills. They are the driving force behind successful careers and companies, thriving industries and economies, and the event showcases the very best in their field.

Clare Hughes of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP said: “The event this year is bigger than ever and we wish Macaulay every success.  Technical and vocational education and training is of great importance, not just to Lincolnshire but to the UK as a whole, and we hope that others are inspired by Macaulay's achievement.”

Macaulay is competing in the construction metalwork category.
