Seventy-five people from Greater Lincolnshire businesses have signed up to Give an Hour.

The Give an Hour campaign highlights the fact that in as little as one hour organisations can help to transform a young person’s future by bringing to life different career opportunities and providing insight into the skills young people need to be work-ready and successful in the workplace.

Seventy-five people from a variety of Greater Lincolnshire businesses have now signed up to the scheme, including Jo Mason, the founder of Propulsion Coaching.

“Jo signed up to the Give an Hour campaign to give back to the community and spread the message to young people that not knowing your long-term career path is OK,” said Enterprise Co-ordinator Alex Nightingale.

“She wanted to show young people that exploration and finding your own way by developing self-awareness, making informed and well considered decisions, as well as taking consistent action, is what matters. She is a big believer that people's futures are in their own hands.”

Jo has already delivered two sessions to year 8 and year 9 students at Branston Community Academy and she is due to deliver a similar session at William Farr School in Welton.

Both presentations began with Jo’s own unconventional career journey, followed by a section on values – the rules by which individuals live and organisations function.

With the year 8s Jo covered the factors to focus on during their remaining school years to give them the best choices for their future, summarised as key learning.

In the year 9 session Jo talked about GCSE options – a stressful time for students – and ended with a summary of key takeaways for their next steps. Jo engaged with the careers leader at the school before the activity to make sure the aims of the session met the needs of the school and the pupils.

“The sessions helped the students to realise that they have control of their future, allowing them to make more confident choices,” said Alex.
