This month we’ve hosted two Big Debates in Sleaford and Lincoln to discuss the topic of  apprenticeships.

Business people and training providers gathered at both events to hear the latest updates and to ask questions about changes to the way apprenticeships are run and paid for.

Speakers included LEP Director Ruth Carver; Clare Hughes, the LEP’s skills lead; Mike Johnson MBE, regional ambassador for the National Apprenticeship Service; and Bev Moxon from the Skills Funding Agency.

The Lincoln event also featured an appearance by Connor Jeffery, a young apprentice employed by Octagon Technology, who talked about his experiences and ambitions. Octagon MD Diana Catton also spoke about her company’s experience of hiring apprentices.

Members of the audience were able to ask questions at both events, ranging from funding to the Apprenticeship Levy which comes into force next month for large firms.

The events were timed to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, which took place from 6th to 10th March.
