The LEP’s Careers Hub was delighted to be involved in the BBC’s Share Your Story visit to Outwood Academy Foxhills in Scunthorpe this week, helping to inspire local young people.

The tour marks the BBC’s centenary in 2022 and brings special interactive assemblies to 250,000 secondary school students across the UK.

The event host was Martin Dougan, who spent eight years as presenter of BBC Newsround, and he was joined by three successful young people from the Scunthorpe area: Jacob White and Aaron Cheeseman, who have both started their own media-related businesses, and Ellie Coult, who is currently an apprentice at the BBC and still lives in Scunthorpe.

“After spending so long discussing careers in schools and colleges it was great to see the students benefit from this amazing opportunity to discuss their future pathways,” said Hayley Beardmore, an Enterprise Coordinator at the Greater Lincolnshire LEP.

“It was particularly inspirational for students to hear success stories from former North Lincolnshire students who are either working in apprenticeship positions at the BBC on leading television productions or have started their own businesses.

“Our thanks go to the school teams and industry experts who work so hard to deliver these events.”

Video production entrepreneur Jacob White added: “It was an incredible experience to share my story so far and how I got to where I am today! Great to see so many of the students keen to pursue creative careers too as I know this is something that didn't seem to be so prominent when I was at school.

“Although it was a bit daunting at first, as it was my first time public speaking, I loved every moment of it and can't wait for more opportunities to do it again.”
