Complementing the National Centre for Food Manufacturing - Providing support to businesses located on the Fez and across Greater Lincolnshire -Promoting uptake of advanced technologies

Building on the success of the University of Lincoln's Holbeach campus, home to the National Centre for Food Manufacturing, this project will create a Centre of Excellence delivering innovation support services and research along with relevant skills provision for Greater Lincolnshire's Agri-food businesses.

The centre will promote the rapid uptake of advanced technologies to ensure the sector remains competitive, primarily through facilitating the adoption of robotics and automation along with other innovative technologies across the food supply chain.  Located on and central to the developing South Lincolnshire Food Enterprise Zone (FEZ) in Holbeach, the University’s facilities and expertise will be accessible to businesses on the FEZ and across the Greater Lincolnshire and wider areas, promoting increases in sector GVA.

Over 250 leading food businesses currently work with and access National Centre for Food Manufacturing’s courses or research, including the Bakkavör Group, Nestlé, Greencore, Tulip, Moy Park, Mars, McCains, Pork Farms Group, Princes, Produce World, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and Tesco along with many SMEs.

The building will comprise a net space area of 1,350sqm of accommodation housing; a chemistry laboratory and food microbiology laboratory and preparation rooms; test kitchen and sensory suite; conference, seminar and board rooms; a learning resource centre and computing laboratory; as well as staff offices and accommodation.

The project will give employers the confidence to invest in technology by providing access to expertise and facilities and will also contribute to Greater Lincolnshire’s aspiration to deliver Government and sector strategy for R&D in the agri-food sector.  It will strengthen research, technological development and innovation, and aid the development and competitiveness of a world-leading UK industry in Greater Lincolnshire.
