The New Theatre Royal Is Back!

The New Theatre Royal Lincoln have announced that they will be staging a socially-distanced production, Strictly Cabaret X, with a star-studded cast between Friday 21st May – Saturday 19th June 2021.

Theatres across the country were instructed to close their doors on Monday 16th March 2020, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The New Theatre Royal Lincoln has not re-opened its doors since then, but under the current government roadmap they are able to open for socially distanced performances from Monday 17th May.

NTR - Ray QuinnThe theatre wanted to offer Lincoln audiences a chance to experience some theatre escapism once again. And thanks to funding received from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and administered by Arts Council England, the theatre has been given the opportunity to produce a brand-new, socially-distanced, in-house production, Strictly Cabaret X. The show will feature iconic songs, fabulous dance routines and a bespoke set. There will be five performances in total spread out across late May and June.

The production stars X Factor’s Ray Quinn, as the lead male singer. Alongside his successful career in music, Ray has also appeared in Hollyoaks and is a double winner of ITV’s Dancing on Ice (2009 & 2014). His theatre credits include Danny Zuko in the West End production of Grease, and principal roles in the UK tours of The Wedding Singer and Summer Holiday.

NTR - Kristina RihanoffThe show will also feature six professional ballroom dancers, including national champions, led by Strictly Come Dancing star Kristina Rihanoff. Kristina, a multi-award winner dancer who appeared on Dancing With The Stars in the US, also starred in West End’s Burn The Floor. Theatre fans may remember Kristina from when she visited the New Theatre Royal in 2018 and 2020 in her own production, Dance to the Music.

Joining these stars of stage and screen will be Zoe Hanna May and Lucy Kane, as singers. Both appeared separately on ITV’s The Voice (2017), securing places on Sir Tom Jones’ team. Zoe also starred as Maid Marian in the New Theatre Royal’s 2019 Christmas Pantomime Robin Hood. Lucy, a singer-songwriter, has been recording music for the last seven years and is the daughter of TV presenter Linda Lusardi and actor Samuel Kane.

Strictly Cabaret X is produced and directed by the theatre’s Artistic Director Natalie Hayes-Cowley, choreographed by Kristina Rihanoff, with musical direction from Joel Burgess.

Ahead of the show Natalie Hayes-Cowley said, “This is an incredibly ambitious production for us due to the pandemic. However, we are thrilled to have an opportunity to produce a new genre of show to welcome audiences back to the theatre, giving our patrons an evening of the glitz and glamour of cabaret.”

If the government roadmap remains on track, following this socially-distanced production, the theatre plans to re-open to full audiences from Monday 21st June onwards, where visitors may notice a few exciting changes around the venue. The team have also been working hard to ensure that the correct safety measures are put in place ready for when audiences return. They are constantly responding to government guidance and will react accordingly to any laws placed upon them. The New Theatre Royal are proud members of UK Theatre’s “See It Safely” campaign, ensuring that audience members feel confident and comfortable when they visit again.
