Team Lincolnshire Ambassadors RG Carter met with Lincolnshire County Council's Director of Place Andy Gutherson this month, for a steel signing ceremony to celebrate another milestone in the construction of the Cluster Hub Building; a key development part of the South Lincolnshire Food Enterprise Zone at Holbeach.

The South Lincolnshire Food Enterprise Zone (FEZ) is a pioneering development which is being delivered by a partnership consisting of the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Lincolnshire County Council, South Holland District Council and the University of Lincoln.

Its vision is to create bespoke, high quality employment space for new businesses and SMEs specifically in the agri-tech sector, and it is already attracting interest and investment on a global scale.

This flagship project is being delivered by a number of Team Lincolnshire ambassadors. One of the key companies driving the project is RG Carter which is the lead contractor for the construction of the Cluster Hub building.

The multi-use space will provide small and medium-sized business tenants with support services, networking, meeting and events space and catering. The principal behind this building is to nurture collaboration between businesses and partners in the agri-tech industries, so they can share ideas and be at the heart of innovation. Reinforcing the commitment Greater Lincolnshire has to become a world class destination in this industry.

RG Carter and Lincolnshire County Council also appointed Team Lincolnshire ambassadors Core Architects to be the leading design team for the Cluster Hub. The building is being funded by Lincolnshire County Council and the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership through the Government's 'Getting Building Fund' (GBF).

Work commenced on the Hub building in spring 2021, with a view to completion in early 2022. This summer has seen speedy progress in the construction of the Hub building, including the arrival of 100 tonnes of steel to erect the building.

Neal Wheatley, Director & General Manager of RG Carter Lincoln, says: “RG Carter is delighted to be working with Lincolnshire County Council to deliver this exciting and prestigious project for the county. We’re very pleased to be a step closer to finishing this purpose-built hub which will allow businesses to collaborate, be at the heart of innovation and offer first-class facilities for the agri-tech industry.”

Phase one of the scheme is already progressing well with the University of Lincoln recently completing a brand new "Centre of Excellence" on the site. In addition a further 28 acre site has been acquired by LCC and South Holland District Council, to form part of phase two of the FEZ. This is strategically important in safeguarding the delivery of this prestigious development; generating employment opportunities and investment to the area.

The FEZ is gaining national recognition as providing an ideal environment for companies involved in innovation for the food sector; providing bespoke facilities and a hub for R&D and collaboration. It will cement South Lincolnshire's reputation as a major centre for agri-tech, boasting a high concentration of cutting-edge companies, cultivating innovation in areas such as robotics, automation, well-being, low carbon and packaging.

Team Lincolnshire is proud that this prestigious project is being driven by a collaboration of our ambassadors including RG Carter, Gleeds, Core Architects and Pygott & Crone.
